Miss Universe 2017- Jamaica’s Davina Bennett finishes third
Davina Bennett, Miss Universe Jamaica 2017, had a third place finish at the final of the Miss Universe 2017. As her name was announced for the third place position, echoes of boos could be heard from the audience making it evident that they believed she should have placed higher. This sentiment was obviously shared by a host of others based on social media response. Anyone on twitter would have believed that Davina had taken home the Miss Universe crown as they were going wild for her. Even some of the fellow contestants shared the view that she should have been the winner by way of social media. Her fans even started the hashtag, “#MissJamaicaShouldHaveWon.”
She sported her natural hair, in the form of an afro throughout the competition, which was greatly received by the public as tremendous support was shown for this. I personally enjoyed seeing this as a person who has natural hair and believe a great statement was made by her action- representation matters.
Although she did not win, as a fellow Jamaican I am extremely proud of her achievement. For me and I know for many others, Jamaicans and non Jamaicans alike, she is a queen in our hearts and that great Afro is her crown.
On Instagram she showed her gratitude to her fans by saying, “I did not win but I got what I was seeking.I won the hearts of many, I got to highlight Deaf awareness, I stand as the first afro queen to have made it thus far, I represented my little island and I received allll the love one could possibly wish for…. THANK YOU!!! I came, I conquered and if you know me, then you know that’s just another story and you will be seeing a lot more from me💃😉👑 To all the queens that represented, congrats and to our new Miss Universe @demileighnp go conquer the world you are indeed a gem!😍😙”
Congratulations again to Davina Bennett ( Miss Jamaica Universe 2017)
